Grand Award - Seasons on Lanier - Commercial
MALTA 2007
Seasons on Lanier is an active lifestyle adult community on the shores of Lake Lanier. Allgood Outdoors developed the water feature design. Allgood was also the waterfeature contractor and installed plantings.
The owner’s representative had a strong idea of the scale of the waterfeature he envisioned. He wanted it to be visible and substantial from all approaches to the property with tall drops of water. In order to accomplish this, the water had to be split into 3 formations (left, center and right) so it could be visible from both entrances as well as the street.
The feature consists of three falls, with water being supplied by 3 pumps at about 50 gallons per second. All three pumps supply water to one main reservoir which surrounds the entire feature and the water is distributed into the 3 falls via the rock formations. The reservoir is camouflaged by dirt formations and plantings. The falls are about 25’ tall and all vanish into the ground.
The sheer scale of the project was a challenge, not to mention the fact that the feature goes right up to the right of way. A lot of the feature was designed on site with paint, backhoes and the owner’s representative.
The owner’s representative who supported the large feature was vindicated when the falls were turned on and the calls to the sales office tripled! The local newspaper also did a front page article on the entrance because it was so prominent. Before the project was even finished, it became a north Georgia landscape landmark.

Lake Lanier Home - Grand Award - Single Family Residential
MALTA 2007
These homeowner, are in the landscape industry themselves, They chose our firm to transform their blank canvas of a green lawn into a new outdoor living oasis. The overall design would include a pool, spa, water feature, plenty of seating and the subsequent planting to tie everything together. The site, although fairly open, did not come without its obstacles. Preserving the views of adjacent Lake Lanier, while keeping within the Army Corps. of Engineers boundary and screening the neighbors view into the backyard, became quite a challenge. The expansion of the house and deck out into the backyard took away even more of the space our designers had to work with. However, there was an upside to the site constraints. Interestingly enough, there were several large specimen Japanese Maples on-site that we could relocate to the pool area to anchor the lush plantings and help create this backyard retreat. The remodeling of the house opened up the homeowners’ view of the lake from inside the house, therefore, it made sense to carry that theme out into the landscape. A raised seat wall overlook and the spa were strategically positioned to take advantage of these views. Virtually every seat around the pool has a view of the lake. The elevation changes built into the pool area created distinct seating areas which are separated by plantings and in some cases water. The pool itself meanders its way across the width of the backyard narrowing down to as little as 9’ wide along a portion of its 60’ overall length. The highlight of this outdoor environment is the raised spa nestled into one end of the pool alongside a natural cascading waterfall. These homeowners can enjoy the warmth of the bubbling spa with the sounds of the waterfall splashing down into the pool while taking in their view of the lake, thus making the experience simply majestic.
Most of our clients come to us with a vision of what they want their new landscape to look like when we are finished. These clients were no exception. As designers, the challenge is always to bring that vision into reality while fighting the never ending battles of budget, scheduling, weather, etc… For us, getting the chance to bring the a leading landscape sional's family’s vision to life and seeing them enjoy our efforts is a very rewarding.

Forsyth County Residence - Distinction Award - Single Family Residential
MALTA 2007
These clients were building their dream home on a wooded, cul-de-sac lot and wanted a dream yard to match. They requested an open, grassy feel with a formal pool, an open-air pavilion, a guest house and guest parking. The combination guest house, pavilion and car storage are beautiful architectural elements, yet the homeowners wanted them tucked into the landscape so they were not the “main story” in the back yard.
The homeowners wanted to be in nature without being in the woods, so the plantings were deliberately kept open and airy. The lady of the house was afraid of snakes so she specifically wanted large, mulched areas and minimal ground cover.
The moderately sloped property needed to be made flat, useable and interesting all at the same time, so we defined different areas to incorporate the goals of the client with good landscape design. The back yard has the flat, open, uncluttered, grassy area, with the formal pool, water feature, koi pond and patio adjacent to the pavilion and guest house. As the property sloped down from the right side of the home, we created a meandering stone path that led to a terrace-level entry and continued along the side of the property. It winds along a combination of evergreen and deciduous plants to the back of main pond which turns into a vanishing waterfall.
The designer created multiple “view corridors” so the Clients can enjoy a beautiful view whether they’re inside or out.
Woodstock Residence - Distinction Award - Single Family Residential
MALTA 2007
The homeowners wanted a garden to enjoy his love of horticulture. They are enthusiastic gardeners and wanted a place to experiment with different varieties of plants and indulge his hobby. They wanted to incorporate water into the design and planned on having a koi pond.
First there was a need to solve a variety of parking problems. There wasn’t enough parking for guests. In addition, they often didn’t come to the front door when they visited. A garage with an apartment had to be located on iste. There was a need to connect the house with the detached garage. Finally the existing drive had a problem with traffic circulation and had a lot of “dead ends”.
The designer had multiple challenges. It was a challenge to create 3 parking bays for the family to use and still be visible from the front door. There was also a problem overcoming the grade differences between the front yard and the house. We also had to emphasize the front door so the guests would naturally be directed to the entry. In terms of the garden, the best sunlight was in the front of the house so the garden had to be created in the front yard.
We removed the lattice, solved the parking and circulation problems and created a breezeway to connect the parking with the house. We knew he would be using a lot of different plants so we gave them many areas to enjoy different plants. Now the home front garden has multiple waterfalls, a well head, a pond, and a beautiful landscape to enjoy. We feel the project was a huge success because the client spends every morning and evening in his garden enjoying his personal nature preserve.
